Hard shifting when cold manual
· When the engine/tranny are cold it shifts hard from first to second and then really hard from second to third. The first to second shift isn't terribly noticeable but the second to third shift will whip your neck a bit, depending on how hard you are www.doorway.ru Interaction Count: · Discussion Starter · #1 · . Hi, Like some JK my manual transmission was grinding when shifting from first to second gear when it was cold. No problem in summer but when it was celcius or below the gear were grinding when shifting. Downshift had no problem at all, only shifting. Normal jeep thing, I don't think its normal. Transmission problem when it is cold outside: Transmission Shifting Problem – Your transmission can be harder to shift in cold weather because shift points become delayed. These delayed shifting can produce increased pressure within multiple transmission parts. Increased pressure can somethings result in transmission failure as time goes www.doorway.ruted Reading Time: 2 mins.
The result is manual transmission hard to shift when hot. If the teeth of this ring is damaged in some way, it is difficult to shift the transmission. You can also check for the wear between the blocking ring and the gear using a feeler gauge and checking the measurement against specifications. Uhm, the manual on the JK is spec'ed for Syncromesh, which is a bit thinner and has syncro friction modifiers. So yeah, you're running a thicker oil than the NSG is spec'ed for, and you're gonna have trouble shifting when cold, amongst other things (some additive packages in gear oils will also eat up your syncros, though hopefully that won't happen with the Royal Purple). It makes me think there is a algorithm issues in the transmissions cold weather programming. Even if the engine is revving a bit higher (say 2, rpm), I dont think it should jolt so hard when shifting. Once the engine is warm I can run it to red line if I wanted to and the shifts are still silky smooth.
Note that if your car is only a bit harder to shift when the weather gets cold, you may not even have an issue as gear oil thickens up as temperatures drop. I have used red line MTL in all my manual transmissions for years. My i auto shifts hard, and idols rough too when cold. It's just a bit of a chore to shift into first, and a bit more of a chore to shift into reverse, when the manual transmission is cold. It's also.
